‘Your perfect day, every day’ is the promise made by Exeter Golf and Country Club and for the four thousand people already members of this prestigious leisure facility, this is a promise well kept.
Exeter Golf and Country Club is renowned for being the region’s finest member’s club, but what lies behind the grand Georgian exterior, once home to the distinguished Duckworth family for more than a century?
With ancient history dating back to the time of Henry III, Wear Park was purchased in 1804 by Admiral Sir Thomas Duckworth who re-built the Wear House, recognised today as one of Exeter’s most beautiful historic buildings.
Exeter Golf and Country Club history at Wear House dates back to 1929. With an 18 hole course designed by the famous James Braid, the Club has flourished during its 81 year history. The 6023 yard golf course is set amongst ancient Oaks, Lime, Redwood and Horse Chestnut trees, with a grass 25m driving range and the region’s only short game area, plus private lessons and teaching studios with the on-site Golf Pro.
Of course, as the club’s name suggests, golf remains as important to the club as it has ever been, however a wide range of sport and leisure facilities are also available which together are unrivalled by any other leisure venue in the region.
With indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis, squash, thriving Bridge Club, a fitness centre and a range of classes from yoga to spinning, members of Exeter Golf and Country Club can enjoy their sport of choice in a welcoming environment where fellow members become friends.
The thriving social scene at Exeter Golf and Country Club creates a home from home with a friendly bar for drinks after a day on the golf course, along with fine dining in sophisticated surroundings of theCLUBHOUSE restaurant. The elegance of Exeter Golf and Country Club is best absorbed with a glass of wine on the patio overlooking the landscaped gardens at the 18th hole.
True relaxation abounds within this idyllic setting, from unwinding in the jacuzzi, steam room or sauna, to reading a book in the walled garden by the outdoor pool. After working up a sweat in the gym, cool off with a swim and relax with a refreshing drink on the veranda overlooking the pool and six tennis courts.
