A member of Exeter Golf and Country Club is taking on the #Swim22 challenge to raise money for local charity, Children’s Hospice South West.
Annabel McCabe, who is Lead Organiser of the South West Business Expo, has just started what she hopes will be a six week challenge; to swim the equivalent of the English Channel.
The 22 mile swim can take place during a twelve week period, but Annabel plans to complete it in half that time.
Annabel will swim the distance of the English Channel in the outdoor pool at Exeter Golf and Country Club, with a stint whilst on holiday in Mexico. She will record each swim on her smart watch and upload the statistics and progress updates at regular intervals during the challenge.
One week in, Annabel has already made progress, and is hoping her friends, family and business associates will support her with donations to the charity, Children’s Hospice South West.
Children’s Hospice South West is the South West Business Expo charity of the year.
Annabel said, “As the Lead Organiser of the South West Business Expo, I really wanted to raise more funds for our chosen charity for 2018 – Children’s Hospice South West. I have seen the amazing work they do for children and families with life-limiting conditions and wanted to add to the money they had already raised by being part of show. My sister in law recently completed the #Swim22 challenge for diabetes, which gave me the idea in the first place. I love swimming and it’s part of my weekly routine at Exeter Golf and Country Club, so I thought this would be an ideal way to help raise funds and awareness about the charity.
As a regular swimmer, Annabel wasn’t satisfied with completing the challenge during the usual period of time – which is twelve weeks. She decided to raise the bar and push herself by committing to swimming the 22 miles in just six weeks instead.
Annabel continued, “I’m giving myself an extra challenge! I will need to swim 300 lengths a week to complete the 1770 lengths (22 miles) of the outdoor pool, which is 20 metres in length, in six weeks.”
Donations to Children’s Hospice South West can be made through Annabel’s Virgin Money Giving page.
