On Thursday 4th May the Club President’s Charity day for the Royal Marines took place with 132 participants enjoying reasonable weather and a great atmosphere of challenge and fun. The event raised over £4000 for the charity. Club President, Keith Bolden thanks all of those who participated and gave so generously. The Deputy Lord Mayor and Major Rick Hall from the Royal Marines attended showing their support for the event.
Particular fund raising successes were the raffle with excellent prizes donated by local businesses resulting in a sum of £825. There was a fun competition with a ‘Beat the pro’ challenge on the 4th hole where players tried to beat pro Tom’s shot to the green. He has to be thanked for responding to this challenge throughout the day and raising £375 for the charity. Only 6 people beat him!
There were 9 team prizes ranging from golf bags to Club vouchers and prizes for the best score by a man, a lady and a Royal Marine. A number of the seniors were included in the winners such as Les Nicks, Vic Fox, Geoff Bush, Mike Kirkham and Chris Wright.
Keith Bolden said, “I would like to thank all the team led by Gordon Peacock and my wife, Sheila, for their unstinting efforts during a long day and to Shirley-Anne Fison for raising sponsorship so successfully.”
