Devon Girls Elite Squad coaching underway

Feb 25, 2020 | Jenni Ashford

The first Devon Girls Elite Squad coaching session took place at Exeter Golf and Country Club at the weekend. The Devon Girls Elite Squad Head Coach is Exeter Golf and Country Club Director of Golf, Darren Everett. The first session focused on gaining confidence in on-course recovery shots and trying to maintain chances of scoring well through good shot choices.

The Devon Girls Elite Squad is made up of up to 10 girls, aged 13 – 17 years old.

The squad has a very home-club feel, as 6 of the 8 who attended the first session, are members or second club members at Exeter Golf and Country Club. The squad sessions are designed to enhance on-course performance and form part of the build up to the Inter County Girls Championship. The Devon Girls Elite Squad will travel to Carlyon Bay in Cornwall for the championship in August.

“The squad has a lot of talent and more importantly have a great team ethos and get on really well. This makes coaching them both a rewarding and fun process. Its fantastic to see so many Exeter Golf and Country Club members form the squad. It’s a small squad but hopefully with the girls coaching programmes we are running at club level, we will soon see some more players coming through and joining the squad in the near future.”

Exeter Golf and Country Club members in the squad are: Sophie Page, Chloe Hall, Flossy Voaden, Hannah Reynolds, Gudrun Nolan and Ellie Tampkins.
