50 Junior Squash Players Participate in Devon Championships

Exeter Golf and Country Club’s junior squash players topped the Devon Junior Squash Championships on 15th and 16th September at their home club.

Exeter Golf and Country Club hosted the largest county squash tournament of the year with the Devon Junior Championships taking place across the weekend. Fifty players, aged between 6 and 18 years old took part, competing in age groups Under 11 through to Under 19 for the chance of become Devon Junior Champion.

Over 100 matches took place, with Exeter Golf and Country Club’s own junior players battling it out to success, some winning their respective categories. Congratulations to the winners Yasmin Brown (Girls U11), Lauren Brown (Girls U13), Devina Gandhi (Girls U15) and Oliver Gribble (Boys U13) for winning their age groups.

Ioan Sharpe was Runner Up in the U15 Boys and Rory Cooper Smith, Runner Up in the Boys U13.

The event proved that junior squash at Exeter Golf and Country Club is in a strong position, with 18 entrants achieving these successes and also other Plate wins across the age groups.

Tournament organiser and Head of Squash and Racketball, Mike Harris said ‘’The quality of squash from all the age groups was fantastic. It is great to see such large numbers of junior players playing at this level in Devon, and bodes well for the chances of our Junior County sides this coming season! There really was a brilliant standard of squash across the two days .”
