At the Devon Tennis Awards on Wednesday 30th January, Exeter Golf and Country Club’s James Fitzpatrick won the Young Person of the Year Award. The county awards are the first stage of the British Tennis Awards. James will now progress to the South West awards.

Since joining in August 2016, James has made a huge contribution to the tennis section. He assists with junior squads on a weekly basis and has developed a great rapport with all of the juniors. During the Tennis for Kids scheme in the summer holidays James assisted the coaching team in a programme which saw over 80 juniors introduced to the sport. He also regularly volunteers to umpire matches at mini tennis tournaments providing support to the coaches running the events.

He is known throughout the section for his dedication to tennis at Exeter Golf and Country Club. As well as supporting the coaching team, he is also a regular member of the men’s and mixed teams, attends Club Nights, team training and club tournaments.

James Temple, Head of Rackets, said “James fully deserves this award for all of the time that he has put in to the tennis section since joining. He has become an integral member of both the junior and adult sections. His support of the coaching team in squads and tournaments has been invaluable. I’m sure that all of the parents and members who witness the work he has put in will share my delight that it has been recognised with this award”.
