With the announcement that we will all have to wear face coverings in shops and retail venues from 24th July, it’s time to consider adapting your skincare. Perhaps you’re an NHS or key worker and have been feeling the effects of wearing one everyday…hopefully these tips will help get your skin back on track.
Whether your choose a disposable face mask or a breathable cotton washable face mask, any prolonged use will create a warm, moist and bacteria prone environment which isn’t great for your skin.
Until we can offer facial treatments again at Wear Park Spa, here are the best ways to treat and nourish your skin at home to counteract irritated, dehydrated, problematic, dull or inflamed skin caused by wearing a face mask or covering.
Cleansing is the vital first stage in any skincare routine and the Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm suits all types of skin and ages. It removes make up and bacteria while indulging the skin with nutrients from its 9 essential oils.
Whether you choose the original cleansing balm, or opt for the Rose Cleansing Balm, which is great for pigmentation and sensitive skin, or the limited edition Neroli Cleaning Balm, which is uplifting and balancing, all three work deep into the pores to remove make up, grime and pollutants.
After smoothing on the balm, the oils are released through massage, lifting impurities from skin and stimulating collagen and improving circulation. Concentrate on the area under the face mask, especially along the jaw line, which can often be prone to break outs. Add a little water and the balm turns into a milky texture which lifts and deeply cleans into the pores, when you use a warm washcloth to remove the cleanser, along with bacteria and impurities.
Tone and resurface
Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads is a daily exfoliation treatment to smooth the skin and can be used instead of a toner. Using the woven textured side, use light circular motions around the face, jaw and neck – concentrating on areas where bacteria may get trapped – the nose, chin and jaw bone especially.
These pads are super effective in treating hormonal breakouts, dryness and irritation. The Tri-Enzyme technology produces a cell renewal process, leaving behind fresh and smooth skin after every sweep of the pad.
Weekly exfoliating peel
Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel is a gentle, creamy exfoliator that decongests pores using pineapple and papaya extracts to nibble away at dead skin cells.
Just 10 -15 minutes, applied like a mask, will reveal the freshest looking skin – rejuvenated and glowing.
Whilst it is super smoothing for the complexion, the peel doesn’t create dryness or discomfort like some peels do. It is nourishing to naturally stimulate skin cell production – amazing for sluggish, grey looking skin.
Weekly repair mask
A hydrating mask to counteract the Covid mask!
Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask does exactly what you would hope and expect. It repairs, it relaxes and it heals.
Applied all over the face, jaw and neck for 10 – 15 minutes, this nourishing clay mask, calms irritations, purifies and rebalances the skin, reduces sensitivities and heals blemishes. The perfect antidote to skin that has suffered behind a face covering, starved of the healing qualities of fresh air and light!
Men will also find this Repair Mask helpful in tackling sensitivity from shaving and ingrowing hairs.
You can also use it as a targeted spot treatment – dab it on the blemish and leave on overnight.
The Herbal Lavender Repair Mask reduces inflammation, is calming and indulgent for all types of stressed skin.
The ultimate calm balm
Elemis SOS Emergency Cream is a great antidote to sensitive, inflamed skin – any time it needs a boost – this is a go-to pick me up for so many occasions. From ski trips to post summer sun, from hormonal breakouts to dealing with sore marks left from wearing a Covid face mask…this is your skin saviour.
You can use it morning or evening or both. You can use it on it’s own or under a moisturiser, so you still benefit from the anti-aging qualities of Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, for instance!
Warm the balmy textured SOS cream between your fingertips and the glide it across the face, smoothing it on, paying special attention to any extra inflamed, sensitive areas.
Always use a clean face mask and rotate them.
If wearing a face mask for prolonged lengths of time, try Elemis Rose Hydrating Mist every time you take it off and put it back on. The rose infused serum spray is comforting and soothing to refresh, rehydrate and cool the skin throughout the day (or night shift).
Finally, the eyes. When the rest of your face is covered, you want your eyes to look their best.
The Elemis Eye Revive Mask can be used as a daily treatment or throughout the day over make up as an instant pick-me-up. It hydrates and freshens the eye area to combat eye strain and fine lines. It also tackles dark circles to leave you with sparkling, revived eyes ready to smile for the rest of your face behind the mask!
