Exeter Golf and Country Club junior tennis players competed at the grade 4 tournament in Taunton during the Easter school holidays.
The 10U events were played on Tuesday. After both playing in the singles event, Edward Guy and Johnny Evans then paired up to take part in the doubles. Having looked forward to partnering each other all day, they didn’t disappoint. After winning their quarter-final 4-2 the boys faced a tough
route to the title with pairs ranked higher than them awaiting in the semi-final and final.
The semi-final was a tight affair with only a late break of serve making all the difference as Ed and Johnny prevailed 5-3. The boys then produced some of their best tennis of the day to win the final 4-1 to end a long day of tennis on a high.
On Friday morning it was the turn of the 8U players. The boys event was played as a round robin competition. Nicholas Wright won his first two matches comfortably before a very tight defeat, 10-9, against Reuben OCallaghan in the third round. However, 10-4 and 10-5 victories in the final two rounds proved enough for Nicholas to finish as the winner of the event.
Huge congratulations to Ed, Johnny and Nicholas for their successes during the week.
