The annual ladies’ golf coffee morning on Thursday 22nd March has been deemed a huge success by the Ladies’ Golf Captain, Lyne Beevers, who has announced it raised £1,700.
Each year the ladies’ golf membership host a coffee morning at the beginning of the season to help raise funds for team expenses and the Captains’ charity of the year, which for 2018 is the NeoNatal Unit at the RD&E Hospital.
Due to the Beast from the East 2.0, the course was under a blanket of snow on Sunday and Monday casting doubt on whether or not the event could go ahead. Once the snow had finally disappeared the Greenkeepers team got to work and managed to present the golf course in fantastic condition. 93 golfers from all over the county played in the event with many subsequent positive comments were received regarding the condition of the golf course.
Unlike most open competitions there were no prizes, but upon checking in, golfers were met with tea and coffee and various stands to purchase items such as books, cakes and golf clothing to name a few. The Ladies’ Golf Captain, Lyne Beevers, and many golf members were out in force to assist in the running of the day as well as Lyne’s husband John, Allan Edgecombe and Mike Kirkham starting all the groups from the 1st tee.
The first tee time started at 9.00 and the Topsham Room quickly became busy, with golfers popping in for a catch up with friends prior to going out (even staff members popped in to sample the homemade cakes).
Lyne Beevers said, ” Thank you to all those who assisted in the organisation and running of the day and to the members who donated cakes, and other items.”
The ladies’ golf season will get underway shortly with the Still Cup, President’s Trophy and Sheelah Creasy teams representing Exeter in their respective divisions. The funds raised will help the section with transportation, meals and other related costs. Updates on the teams progress will be communicated throughout the season.
