Exeter and District Tennis League’s inaugural pre-season tournament took place at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
24 players representing teams from the eight men’s divisions took part looking to hone their games before the summer season begins in April.
The tournament was split into three grades with all events throwing up some very tight matches. The C grade was won by Ben Rutter and Stephen Lilley from Tipton St. John. Father and son pair Neil and Tom Baber from Newton St. Cyres triumphed in the B grade having coming through three close matches involving four tie-breaks. EGCC first team pair James Temple and Max Goodison won the A grade event.
It was good practice for the other EGCC pairs who took part. James Hope/Alun Evans came third in the A grade whilst John Wilton-Davies/Zak Wilton-Davies and Tom Slack/Pete Jameson were part of the very closely contested B grade. 14&U pair Marcus Kay/James Fitzpatrick and Stuart Gilfillan took part in the C grade, gaining valuable match practice ahead of the summer.
