Sunday afternoon saw the much-anticipated battle between the members and staff on the tennis and racketball courts.
The Members team, captained by Chris Goodwill featured rackets members aged between 10 and 73. They were pitted against the Staff team which pulled together staff from across the club and committee members. The General Manager, Systems Manager, Head Golf Professional, events team, reception, gym and tennis coaches were amongst the staff taking part, captained by Head of Rackets James Temple .
With many non-players in the Staff team, the tennis and squash committees joined the team to bolster their strength against the more experienced Members team.
The Staff team put up a great fight and picked up some significant victories throughout the day including a memorable victory for Chris Jones, General Manager and James Temple, Head of Rackets against Chris Goodwill and Golf Captain Keith Parnall.
On the racketball court our Head Golf Professional Darren Everett produced a moment of magic against Stuart Gilfilllan but succumbed to Stuart’s experience overall. The video can be seen on Twitter – along with some entertaining comments.
After 60 well-fought matches it was the Members team who prevailed 35-25, proving too consistent despite a fantastic effort from the Staff team many of whom were playing their first ever tennis and racketball matches.
The competitive edge of the Staff team has been ignited and they are already in training for the next contest, which will take place this summer, when they’ll be looking for revenge!
