For the love of golf

They say ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’. With the lockdown extended by three weeks, we thought you may like to see how well the course is being cared for by our team of Greenkeepers, while you’re away.

A ‘Covid-19’ team of Greenkeepers are covering the seven days of the week to maintain the course on a daily basis. With two Greenkeepers working each day to avoid lone working, the course maintenance work is planned so they can maintain social distancing while carrying out essential tasks to ensure the golf course is in top condition when we reopen.

Government guidelines dictate the course maintenance work we can carry out and the team are working within recommendations by Devon Golf, England Golf, The PGA and BIGGA.

The weather has served us well with a surge of spring growth following months of rain, broken by the prolonged sunshine of lockdown! Although, today’s showers are a welcome, temporary, break from the sun.

The Greenkeepers have been mowing to keep surfaces trimmed and healthy, so the course is shaping up nicely, despite reduced staff numbers. Aside from mowing, we are carrying out general maintenance and the odd repair to the irrigation system in readiness for the summer.

A positive outcome of lockdown, is that with the course being closed, the Greenkeepers are able to get to work on repairs and maintenance that otherwise would be tricky on a busy course, like ours at Exeter Golf and Country Club.

We hope you agree, the course is looking pretty spectacular, so get practising your technique, with Darren’s top tips and getting fit and flexible with the free exercise app, ready to make a big comeback as soon as the club reopens.
